Baleària adds a new fast ferry on the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route to enhance connections between Spain and Morocco
High-speedBaleària plans to introduce a second vessel to the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route, which commenced on 23 May at 11:00 a.m. from the port of Cádiz. The company, which began operating the line on 8 May, will increase its daily departures from both countries from four to six with the introduction of the JAUME I fast ferry, a high-speed vessel with a capacity for over 600 passengers and 150 vehicles. Additionally, the company will gradually increase its frequency in the coming weeks, reaching between eight and twelve daily departures, depending on demand and passenger volume.
"We have begun operating this route with great enthusiasm and a true sense of responsibility. It is a vital route for our customers, for Moroccans, and for all tourists visiting Morocco, particularly the city of Tangier. We will offer a comfortable and punctual service to all those who place their trust in Baleària," emphasised Bassoul, who also highlighted the significant investments the shipping company plans for this route.
Baleària has been operating between Spain and the Kingdom of Morocco for over 20 years. The new route between Tangier and Tarifa is the shipping company’s fourth between the two countries, as it also connects Tangier Med with Algeciras and Motril, and Nador with Almería.
Green Corridor
Baleària has won the tender to operate the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route, with a 15-year concession from 2025 to 2040. "In return, we have committed to incorporating two new 800-seat vessels, which will be built in a Spanish shipyard. These will be highly innovative electric vessels, which do not yet exist on the market, and will enable a 100% electric journey," explains Bassoul.
"This route will thus become the first green corridor between Africa and Europe. We are very proud to be pioneers in this field. We hope that, once the service is fully operational, everyone who travels with us will enjoy a journey free of noise, vibration, and fumes," Bassoul concludes.
