Brittany Ferries takes delivery of SAINT-MALO

Brittany Ferries LNG-electric hybrid vessel SAINT-MALO has been delivered from CMI Jinling Weihai shipyard and will now transit to Europe. Portsmouth will be her home from early next year, and she will link Pompey with the eponymous Corsair town from which she takes her name.
SAINT-MALO is owned by Stena RoRo and is chartered by Brittany Ferries for a period of 10 years with a purchase option after four years.
CORSICA linea and Spinergie combine artificial intelligence and maritime decarbonization

Since April 2024, CORSICA linea has deployed the voyage optimization solution from French start-up Spinergie, a maritime technology company specializing in monitoring ship performance using big data and artificial intelligence. This decision-making tool helps improve the environmental and operational impact of the passenger and freight transport company, which aims to be the most modern in the Mediterranean by 2030.

Building permit granted for new Turku ferry terminal

The new passenger terminal and associated passenger bridges of the Ferry Terminal Turku project have been granted a building permit, marking a significant milestone for the project. Construction of the terminal is set to begin at the start of 2025, with an estimated completion date in 2027. Tallink Silja will start using the terminal as soon as it is completed, and Viking Line will follow once the work on the second pier is finished in 2027.

DP World acquires 47,000 TEUs to boost capacity

For the first time, DP World has acquired 47,000 TEUs that have been registered and branded to the company. The new containers will increase DP World’s cargo capacity and ability to respond quickly and flexibly to customer needs. This acquisition provides DP World's customers seamless access to critical container capacity, ensuring that even during periods of peak demand or unexpected disruptions, they have the ability to keep goods moving. By enhancing its control over delivery schedules, DP World can minimise risk of delays.

Steel cut ceremony marked the start of production for Fjord1’s autonomously operated ferries

A steel cut ceremony was held at the Tersan Shipyard for four new zero (direct)-emission ferries for Fjord1. The ferries will operate autonomously on the world's first autonomous ferry connection between Lavik and Oppedal from 1 September 2026 to 2034, with the possibility of extension for up to three more years.

Stena Line and Associated British Ports to progress new GBP 200 million ferry terminal in Immingham

Stena Line, and the UK’s largest port operator, Associated British Ports (ABP), have announced their intention to proceed with a GBP 200+ million joint investment in a new freight ferry terminal at the Port of Immingham following the granting of the Development Consent Order (DCO) planning application by the UK Government.

Estonian State Fleet launces a call for tender for the construction of battery-powered electric ferry

Estonian State Fleet announced a call for tender for the design and construction of a new, battery-powered electric ferry to serve the main islands in Estonia. The updated design concept for the new ferry focuses on maximizing energy and cost efficiency, while ensuring passenger comfort.
The new ferry is planned to be the main vessel for the Virtsu-Kuivastu route in Estonia but will also be suitable for the Rohuküla-Heltermaa route if necessary. The deadline for submission of tenders for the construction and design of the vessel is 10 December 2024.
Launch of CLdN’s G9 ro-ro CHAUMINE at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard

CHAUMINE was floated in dry-dock and moved to a berth where the final stages of her construction will be completed in the coming weeks. CHAUMINE is the first of two G9 ro-ro vessels currently on order for CLdN at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
The 234-metre CHAUMINE is the first of two vessels currently on order and will be equipped with two conventional main engines as well as two large shaft generators of 6 MW each, which can be used for generating power or for electric propulsion.
American Cruise Lines announces AMERICAN MAVERICK and AMERICAN RANGER

American Cruise Lines announced the construction of AMERICAN MAVERICK and AMERICAN RANGER. These new 125-passenger ships are the 7th and 8th vessels in the company’s Project Blue series of small ships for the U.S. market. AMERICAN MAVERICK and AMERICAN RANGER will both begin cruising in 2026, directly following the 2025 debuts of AMERICAN PATRIOT, AMERICAN PIONEER, and new riverboat AMERICAN ENCORE (2026).

This event brings together in Athens international stakeholders in shipping: a total of 800 top players from the world of finance, logistics and port operations.
DFDS September volumes: Continued freight growth
Total freight volumes in September 2024 were 4.4% above 2023 and up 1.0% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes in 2024 and closure of the Calais-Tilbury route in 2023.
The number of passengers in September 2024 was 39.4% above 2023 and down 2.7% adjusted for the addition of the Strait of Gibraltar routes.
