Polferries’ VARSOVIA has been delivered

Polferries’ new VARSOVIA has been delivered from the Visentini Shipyard in Italy. The Swinoujscie-Ystad ro-pax is the largest vessel built to date at the yard.
The NAOS-designed VARSOVIA is 216m long and have a capacity for 920 passengers and 2,940 lane metres of freight. There are 200 passenger cabins and a capacity to transport 200 cars and 150 trucks.

Procurement launched for CMAL’s Small Vessels Replacement Programme

The procurement of seven new electric ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd. (CMAL) to help support island communities and improve the resilience of the Clyde and Hebrides ferries network is underway. The first stage of the competitive tender process will assess if shipyards interested in bidding for the contract meet the financial and technical criteria to take on the project.
Estimated costs for Phase 1 of the Small Vessels Replacement Programme are around GBP 175 million, for the seven new vessels, as well as port improvements and shore power upgrades.
The invitation to tender for this contract is expected to be issued around September 2024, with a view to awarding the contract in March 2025.

Construction started on BC Ferries new hybrid Island Class vessels

Construction has officially begun on the first two of the four new battery-electric hybrid Island Class vessels BC Ferries is building at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania.
The vessels will be based on Damen’s double-ended Island-class RoRo 8113 E3 model. Each will be capable of carrying up to 47 vehicles and 390 passengers. Battery packs with a capacity of 2,000 kilowatts will supply the electricity for the power trains. Rapid recharging using renewable electricity will take place while the ferries disembark and embark their passengers and vehicles at each end. Each vessel will also have auxiliary diesel engines installed for back-up and general redundancy.

DFDS June volumes: growth for both freight and passengers
Total volumes in June 2024 for DFDS were 5.8% above 2023 and up 0.9% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes in 2024 and closure of the Calais-Tilbury route in 2023. The number of passengers in June 2024 was 46.2% above 2023 and up 11.1% adjusted for the addition of the Strait of Gibraltar routes.

MSC acquires majority stake in Gram Car Carriers

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, through its subsidiary SAS Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl, has acquired 96.82% of Gram Car Carriers at a cash consideration of NOK 263.69 per share.
Settlement and completion of the offer will take place no later than 25 July 2024, subject to the remaining closing conditions.
