Greece’s Seajets have confirmed to Shippax that they are the buyers of Color Line’s former 1985-built COLOR VIKING, which was put up for sale in early November this year.

Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard lays the keel of Torghatten Nord’s zero emission battery ferry HINNØY

Turkey’s ferry shipbuilding specialist Cemre Shipyard laid the keel of NB 1091, a zero emission, battery operated ferry for Norway’s Torghatten Nord AS.

Designed by Norwegian Ship Design, HINNØY when delivered in February 2024, the 117m double-ender will be able to carry 399 passengers on the route Bognes-Lødingen, in northern Norway, making the crossing in just one hour, at a speed of 13-14 knots.

British cruise line Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has placed the smallest vessel in its four-ship fleet, BRAEMAR, up for sale, as the company embarks on a rationalisation programme cantering on modern tonnage.

The 1993-built, 977 passenger capacity BRAEMAR is currently laid-up in Rosyth, Scotland, where she has been since the start of the COVID pandemic.

Fjord1 took over the operation of the national road ferries across the Tysfjord in Nordland today 1 December and will soon have the world's longest electric ferry connection.

The new ferry contract between the Norwegian Road Authority and Fjord1 covers both national road 827 between Drag and Kjøpsvik and E6 between Bognes and Skarberget. Here, there are more frequent departures every day and increased capacity in the summer.

Wasaline’s new ferry AURORA BOTNIA entered service between Vaasa, Finland and Umeå, Sweden in Autumn 2021. The goal was to build the world’s most environmentally friendly passenger ferry in its class. Now that Wasaline has consumption data from over 12 months, the results look very positive.

During AURORA BOTNIA’s first year in service Wasaline has been able to cut total CO2 emissions by 51.8 percent. AURORA BOTNIA has more weekly departures than its predecessor WASA EXPRESS. Therefore, the reduction in average emissions per departure is even greater, 67.2 %. (The calculations are based on WASA EXPRESS’ first year in service, 2013.)

The Scottish Government extend charter of VICTORIA I for Ukrainian refugees

AS Tallink Grupp and Corporate Travel Management (North) Ltd on behalf of The Scottish Government have agreed an extension to the short-term time-charter agreement for the vessel VICTORIA I. The vessel is used to provide temporary accommodation for Ukrainian refugees in Scotland. The charter has been extended for five months from 14 January 2023.

China Classification Society awards In Principal approval for new 80,000 gt cruise ship project from CSSC

A new 80,000 gt cruise ship design project developed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and its subsidiary CSSC Cruise Technology Development, has obtained a China Classification Society IN Principal approval certificate, a very important piece of paper that is required for the project to move forward to the construction stage.

German Baltic ferry operator TT-Line took delivery of its second LNG-powered Green Ship ro-pax from China’s Nanjing Jinling Shipyard on 28 November – the 56,138 gt PETER PAN.

PETER PAN will join TT-Line's service between Swinoujscie and Trelleborg at the beginning of 2023. Sistership NILS HOLGERSSON, delivered in March this year, operates between Trelleborg-Travemünde-Rostock.

Adora Cruises is the name of China’s new cruise operator aimed at the domestic market and has been established by CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping, a joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corporation and the Carnival Group, to serve the Chinese speaking market with both domestic cruises and those to ports of call overseas.

The first of two newbuildings for Adora, a 323m vessel with 2,125 passenger cabins, is currently under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2023.

BC Ferries embarks on procurement of a further four Island-class vessels, to be followed by seven new major ferries

Canada’s west coast ferry operator, BC Ferries, started the official procurement process for a further four new Island-class vessels, as part of the company’s latest major newbuilding programme which will also see the Victoria, British Columbia-headquartered operator order a further seven major vessels. The seven major vessels will replace six ageing ferries and includes a seventh incremental vessel to support growth and resilience.

The first of P&O Ferries giant double-enders for its Dover-Calais service has been out on sea trials. The 47,394 gt P&O PIONEER is expected to enter service in Q1 2023, while its sister P&O LIBERTÈ will follow in Q4. Both are being built at China's GSI Shipyard.

Designed by Denmark’s OSK ShipTech, the 230.5m x 30.8m ro-paxes will be able to carry 1,500 passengers and 2,658  lanemetres of freight.

Stena Line have announced expansion of their Ireland-France ferry service between Rosslare-Cherbourg route with the addition of the STENA VISION.

With the addition of STENA VISION to its Ireland-France route, Stena Line will provide a significant increase in capacity alongside its existing vessel on the route, STENA HORIZON. The added vessel is due to set sail on its new route in June and brings with it space for 1,300 passengers and with 485 passenger cabins it offers the widest selection of cabins across all of the company's ferries.

The floating out ceremony of BRILLIANT LADY, the last of four ships which Virgin Voyages ordered at Fincantieri, took place 25 November at the Sestri Ponente (Genoa) shipyard.

BRILLIANT LADY, as well as her sisterships SCARLET LADY, VALIANT LADY and RESILIENT LADY, are 278 metres long and 38 wide. They all feature over 1,400 guest cabins designed to host more than 2,770 passengers, accompanied by 1,160 crew members on board.

Baleària opens a daily cargo service between the ports of Motril and Tanger Med

Baleària will start up a new cargo line next week with which it will connect the ports of Motril and Tangier Med on a daily basis. The shipping company thus reinforces its freight transport services to North Africa from the south of the Peninsula.

Baleària will carry out a daily cargo service from each port, departing at 12 noon from Motril and at 11:59 p.m. from Tanger Med with the 1,100 lanemetre capacity VOLCAN DE TAUCE, chartered from Naviera Armas.

Destination Gotland to raise ticket prices with 30 per cent

Stena Line has chosen Nowhere Networks as its supplier of fast internet for its fleet. Implementation has started and by the beginning of next year 32 of Stena Line’s ships will be connected to Nowhere Networks high speed internet Network. The total distance of the routes covered will be approximately 4,000 km, the largest network of its kind in the world.

Wärtsilä partners with cleantech start-up Hycamite to jointly develop technology for onboard production of hydrogen from LNG

Wärtsilä has entered into a joint development agreement with Hycamite TCD Technologies, a privately-owned Finnish company specialising in the development of a technology for producing clean hydrogen and solid carbon from methane. The two companies will work together to enable cost-effective production of hydrogen from LNG onboard marine vessels. The concept design will be ready by mid 2023 and the prototype testing unit will be ready during the second half of 2024.

Tallink Grupp has appointed Anna-Liisa Sisask as the company’s new finance director starting from January 2023. The group’s former finance director Joonas Joost left the company in October to take up a new position in the real estate sector. The company carried out an extensive recruitment process to fill the position with the best new leader for the company’s finance teams.
