Scandlines Gears Up for Future Fixed-Link Competition
FerryWith competition from the Great Belt Bridge and a future tunnel, Scandlines is focusing on more than just transportation. The ferry journey itself is being reimagined as a highlight of the trip. Updates include new dining options with partners like Hansen Ice Cream and Starbucks, a streamlined digital booking system with license plate recognition, and a fresh, family-friendly environment on board, including a new children’s area. Slot machines have been removed to create a more modern, cohesive atmosphere.
"We're responding to what passengers want: a quality experience from start to finish," says Lars Kyrø, Head of B-t-C Passengers at Scandlines. "That means improving everything from the app and check-in to the food and play areas."
Key changes include:
• Self-service food and café areas with quality coffee, snacks, and scenic views
• A new children's zone with educational content about the Fehmarn Belt and its marine life
• An upgraded mobile app for easier trip planning
• Digital tools like license plate recognition and self-service dining to enhance efficiency and staff interaction
