Smyril Line’s first RoRo newbuilding has been launched
Ro-roThe first of Smyril Line’s two upcoming RoRo newbuildings has been launched. The ceremony took place on 12 February at the CIMC Raffles shipyard in China, where the keel for yard number H616 was laid back in September 2025. H616, which will later be named AKRANES, is expected to be delivered in May this year, while H617 will be delivered in July.
The second vessel in the series will be named SKIPANES. The two newbuildings, which are the first purpose-built RoRo vessels for Smyril Line’s North Atlantic shortsea operations, have been designed by Knud E. Hansen and will each have a capacity of 3,300 lanemetres. The vessels will also be delivered as methanol-ready and equipped with a battery pack.
