Saga Cruises exercises option for second newbuild
CruiseUK-based Saga Cruises has exercised its option for a second newbuilding to be built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg.
To be named SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE, the 58,250 gt cruise ship will be delivered by the German yard in summer 2020 and will be a sister to SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY, due to be delivered in June 2019.
The order comes on the back of very strong pre-sales for the company's first-ever newbuilding. The operator's loyal customers have played a key role in the design process and the all-balcony ship class will boast the typical intimacy Saga Cruises has become renowned for.
The ships have a length of 236m and a 31.2m beam, accommodating 999 passengers which guarantees a high passenger space ratio.
Saga Cruises is a niche player in the cruise industry, primary targeting the UK market and passengers should be 50-plus or be accompanied by someone who's 50-plus.
