The ships represent a totally new generation that is set to make waves with the value of each ship being approximately EUR 800m. There will be one delivery per year from 2022 to 2025, stretching to 2027 in case the options will be lifted.
Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and Sace, together with a pool of export credit lenders, have played a crucial role for the success of the order and the shipowner's decision, giving Fincantieri the chance to offer an appealing technical, commercial and financial package, still subject to some conditions.

According to NCLH, these new ships will form the backbone of the future NCL fleet. With a 140,000 GT, the newbuildings will be somewhat smaller than the Breakaway-class built by Meyer Werft with a length o.a. of 300m and a capacity of 3,300 guests suggesting a somewhat higher passenger space ratio.

The order is based on a prototype project developed by Fincantieri, which enhances the consolidated features of NCL's signature offering of freedom and flexibility, qualified by an innovative configuration for an enhanced passenger experience. In addition, focus has been set on energy efficiency, with the twofold aim of optimizing consumption at sea and reducing environmental impact.

In addition to NCL, NCLH control the Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises brands for which Fincantieri have built several ships, the former company currently having a sister of SEVEN SEAS EXPLORER on order.
With NCL, Fincantieri are bagging a new big customer that have traditionally had built their ships at Meyer Werft.
