COSTA CONCORDIA demolition enters final phase
CruiseThe hull of the COSTA CONCORDIA was towed from Genoa’s main harbour to nearby Dry Dock no. 4 on September 1 where the remains of the ship will now be scrapped.
As of early September, the vessel has been stripped of everything but the remaining two decks above the water line. With the last sections of the steel hull able to float on its own, the remaining stability sponsons were finally removed prior to the towing of the wreck.
The final phase of the demolition project is scheduled to take another six months. The task had been awarded to a joint venture between Saipem and San Giorgio del Porto.
