In 2016/17, CMAL generated a revenue of GBP 35.913m compared to GBP 33.549m in 2015/16, with the increase mainly due to increased harbour dues and revenue grants. Pre-tax profits increased from GBP 813,000 to GBP 5.524m with increased harbour dues and revenue grants as noted, along with a decrease in administration costs. A tax charge in 2016/17 against a significant tax credit in 2015/16 resulted in a post-tax profit of GBP 3.063m compared to GBP 7.869m in 2015/16.

During the year, GBP 29m was spent on the construction of new vessels, including the completion of CATRIONA and GBP 97m for the two 100m dual fuel newbuildings to be delivered in early 2018.

As the harbour authority for 26 locations across the west coast of Scotland, CMAL have delivered ongoing investments to ensure that ports and harbours are fit for purpose. Around GBP 3m have been invested in maintenance activity (an annual cost) and GBP 24m was invested in planned upgrade works at selected harbours, including the current flagship harbours project at Brodick Ferry Terminal.
