CARNIVAL VISTA damages Messina piers
CruiseWhen passing too close to the harbour and yacht marina at Messina and with a local pilot on board, Carnival Cruise Line’s latest newbuild CARNIVAL VISTA caused significant damage to piers and boats in the Italian port, on August 30.
The huge waves caused by the cruise ship led to damages to the wooden piers and to the imminent sinking of some small boats. Local authorities in Sicily claim that the incident caused damage in the region of 250,000 €. An investigation is now under way to reveal if the accident has been caused by technical or electronic failure.
The 133,596 GT CARNIVAL VISTA was delivered from Fincantieri in Monfalcone in late April this year and is scheduled to re-position from the Mediterranean to New York and Miami in October.
