Baleària ready with largest-ever operation for the Gibraltar Strait Crossing
FerryBaleària has planned its largest commercial operation to date for the Gibraltar Strait Crossing Operation (from 15 June to 15 September), with up to 37 daily services between Spain and North Africa. To meet the high demand typical of the summer months, the company will allocate 12 vessels from its fleet to the eight routes linking the mainland of Spain with Morocco, Algeria, Ceuta and Melilla, with the aim of ensuring reliable connectivity adapted to passengers’ needs during the busiest maritime traffic season of the year in this region.
To support this increase in commercial activity, Baleària offers onboard services designed to meet the needs of passengers travelling on these routes. Thus, the ferries and fast ferries will provide passenger assistance in Arabic and French, halal food menus in catering areas, and dedicated prayer rooms.
Regarding routes with Morocco, where the company transported nearly one million passengers during the previous campaign, Baleària has increased its services on the Tarifa-Tangier City route to up to 12 daily departures in its second year as operator. In addition, as a new highlight, the company will replace one of its two usual fast ferries with a higher-capacity vessel to respond to the high passenger demand.
Likewise, on the Algeciras-Tangier Med route, Baleària will increase its operations to nine daily services spread throughout the day to facilitate a continuous boarding flow. Meanwhile, on the Almería-Nador route, the Spanish shipping company will operate an average of three daily departures distributed throughout the day. As for the Algeria connections, Baleària will offer, as it did last summer, five weekly services: three rotations from Valencia to Mostaganem, one departure from Barcelona to Algiers, and another connecting the Catalan capital with the city of Oran.
In this market, where the company celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, Baleària will operate with two vessels. Baleària will guarantee up to eleven daily connections with Ceuta using two vessels, while also operating between one and two daily services on its Melilla route, ensuring reliability and adaptation to passenger demand.
