ISLE OF ISLAY Completes Second Sea Trials

A second set of sea trials for ISLE OF ISLAY have been carried out by Cemre Marin Endustri in Yalova, Turkey. The trials took place in the Sea of Marmara from Wednesday, 16th July to Sunday, 20th July, and were attended by staff from CMAL and CalMac.
Included in the trials were the set-up and testing of the battery energy storage system (BESS), as well as the testing and optimisation of the power management system (PMS) and energy management system (EMS).
CLdN to further expand its Teesport service

Following P&O Ferries’ recent decision to close its Zeebrugge - Teesport freight service, CLdN wishes to assure all customers of its long-term commitment to its established Teesport freight shipping service. CLdN will now explore an expansion of its Zeebrugge - Teesport route, but is also considering setting up a new Rotterdam - Teesport freight route if customer demand proves to be supportive.

STENA FUTURA has been delivered

STENA FUTURA — the first of Stena Line's next-gen methanol-ready hybrid ferries — has officially set sail on her 15,000 nautical mile journey from the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in China to Belfast. STENA FUTURA will join the Belfast–Heysham route in mid-September, followed by her sister ship STENA CONNECTA in 2026. Together, they'll boost freight capacity on the route by 40%.

Corsica Linea’s PASCAL PAOLI gains significant fuel savings with Wärtsilä retrofit package

Technology group Wärtsilä's retrofit package for the Corsica Linea ferry PASCAL PAOLI has resulted in fuel savings of up to 22 per cent. This significant gain in energy efficiency on each trip has been made possible by the installation of a new twin screw controllable pitch propeller (CPP) system with blades optimised for the ship's operating profile, the Wärtsilä EnergoProFin energy saving propeller cap, a controls retrofit, and combinator curves for the ship's various operating modes.

Tallink First Half-Year: Signs of Recovery in Q2

AS Tallink Grupp transported a total of 1,488,128 passengers in the second quarter of 2025, marking a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The period ended with a loss of EUR 2.5 million, influenced in part by dividend income tax.
While the transportation of passenger vehicles increased by 1.4% to 212,782 units, freight units declined by 22.8% to 67,038 units. Consolidated unaudited revenue for the quarter reached EUR 207 million, with EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) amounting to EUR 37.4 million. The quarter ended with a net loss of EUR 2.5 million.

Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö acquires Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen from Rederi Ab Lillgaard

Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö has agreed with Rederi Ab Lillgaard to acquire Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen. Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen operates the route Långnäs-Nådendal with the 1972-built FJÄRDVÄGEN. The deal includes the company with all personnel and assets, including FJÄRDVÄGEN.

Scandlines’ New Zero Direct Emissions Ferry FUTURA Prepares For Departure

The new, state-of-the-art ferry, FUTURA, capable of operating completely free of direct emissions, has just completed its second sea trial in the Sea of Marmara near Turkey and is now preparing for its journey home to the Fehmarnbelt.
In close collaboration with the Cemre shipyard and under the close supervision of Lloyd's Register, the ship has been intensively tested under realistic conditions, from blackout simulations to advanced navigation systems and automated safety tests.

Molslinjen electrifies giant catamarans on the Kattegat

The owners behind Molslinjen, Nordic Ferry Infrastructure, have placed a multi-billion (DKK) order for two battery-electric high-speed catamarans to serve the route across the Kattegat – marking the launch of the world's largest electrification project at sea. The ferries will be built by Australian shipbuilder Incat, and a third vessel is also expected to join the fleet in Denmark during 2027 and 2028.
Each of the three ferries will measure 129 metres in length and 30.5 metres in width, accommodating up to 1,483 passengers and 500 cars.
Each ferry will be equipped with battery packs of 45 MWh, powering the ships to speeds of over 40 knots.
Brødrene Aa Eiendom Establishes New Operations in Eikefjord – Working Towards Restart in Hyen

After Brødrene Aa AS filed for bankruptcy in June, intensive efforts have been made to find solutions that can ensure continued operations and preserve jobs in both Eikefjord and Hyen. New activity has now been established in Eikefjord, and progress is being made towards the continuation of newbuilding operations in Hyen.
Brødrene Aa Eiendom AS has founded a new company, Eikefjord Slipp AS, which has purchased the operational assets at the shipyard in Eikefjord and taken over ownership of Eikefjord Elektro AS. Together, the two companies will continue operations focused on refitting and maintenance of passenger vessels.
Naming Ceremony for Grimaldi Group’s First of Ten Large-Capacity Ammonia-Ready Car Carriers

In Haimen (Jiangsu, China), the naming ceremony of the GRANDE SHANGHAI was held — marking the launch of the first of ten next-generation Ammonia Ready PCTC vessels commissioned by the Grimaldi Group from China Merchants Heavy Industries. The first five vessels will be capable of transporting 9,000 CEU, while the remaining five will offer an increased capacity of 9,800 CEU.
Fincantieri’s Isotta Fraschini Motori Launches Hydrogen Fuel Cell Line in Bari
Isotta Fraschini Motori (IFM), a Fincantieri subsidiary, inaugurated a new hydrogen fuel cell production line in Bari, backed by a EUR 30 million investment over five years. The facility, part of the Innovation and Development Center, aims to advance zero-emission technologies for naval and land applications, supporting decarbonization.
The first application will be a marinized fuel cell module for the upcoming VIKING LIBRA, the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship. This aligns with Fincantieri's sustainability goals, leveraging IPCEI "Hy2Tech" funds to drive hydrogen technology and strengthen Southern Italy's industrial growth.
