Ponant unveils a sail powered next generation cruise ship known as Swap2Zero

Ponant has unveiled a pioneering new design for its next generation cruise ship – Swap2Zero – a ship with sail power, solar panels and fuel cells. The 181m sail cruise ship will have accommodation for passengers in 100 cabins and is expected to be in service in 2030.
Ponant is currently in discussions with a number of shipyards on the new vessel and is looking at two French designs for the sail propulsion system – Ayro Oceanwings and Chantiers de l'Atlantique's Solid Sail.

P&O Ferries extend charter of Bore ships

P&O Ferries has confirmed its long term commitment to its North Sea routes by extending the charter agreement with Bore Ltd on the NORSKY and NORSTREAM for three years, boosting the flow of trade between Belgium and the UK, and maintaining its presence on the Zeebrugge-Teesport and Zeebrugge-Tilbury routes for the long term.


THE PRINCESS sold to India

The 2003-built high-speed monohull ferry THE PRINCESS has been sold by Arab Bridge Maritime to M2M Ferries of India. For Arab Bridge Maritime it has served between Aqaba, Jordan to Nuweiba, Egypt. THE PRINCESS becomes the second ship in the M2M Ferries’ fleet, the first being a 95m Greek-built double-ender from 2019 that serve between Mumbai and Mandwa.

Additional EU grants to the Port of Trelleborg

The project has been granted funds from the EU’s Fund for a Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), where the Port of Trelleborg, together with their partner port and core port, Port of Rostock, have been granted a grant of a total of approximately SEK 141 million, of which Port of Trelleborg’s share is approximately SEK 94 million.
Tallink Grupp publishes its 2023 June and Q2 passenger and cargo statistics

In the second quarter of the financial year 2023 (April-June) Tallink Grupp group transported 1,541,081 passengers, which is a 0.7% decrease compared to the same period last year (1,552,174 passengers in Q2 of 2022). The decrease was driven mostly due to chartering of vessels. In comparison to the period of Q2 of 2022, chartered vessels SILJA EUROPA and GALAXY transported together more than 250,000 passengers in total.
After years of delay AMHS’ new ro-pax HUBBARD enters service

TAZLINA is a sister to HUBBARD
After many years of delay, Alaska Marine Highway Services (AMHS) newbuilding ro-pax HUBBARD has entered service. HUBBARD is one of two Alaska Class sisterships ordered by the State of Alaska for service with AMHS as day ferries on its Lynn Canal route – linking Juneau, Haines and Skagway.
Designed by Seattle-based Elliott Bay Design Group, both HUBBARD and sistership TAZLINA were built by the Ketchikan facility of Vigor Shipyards in Alaska, with TAZLINA being delivered in April 2019.
Gotlandsbolaget and H2 Green Steel work together for green hydrogen-supply to shipping

H2 Green Steel (H2GS) and Gotlandsbolaget , have entered into an agreement to explore the possibility to establish a production plant with the capacity to supply part of Gotlandsbolaget ’s fleet with green hydrogen.
H2GS will in a few years operate one of the world’s largest electrolyzers in Boden in norther Sweden, with a capacity of over 700 MW. Leveraging the expertise from the preparatory work from that site, and in line with the company’s strategy to use green hydrogen to reduce emissions in hard to abate industries, H2GS now takes a step into a new field, namely green fuels for shipping.
Auckland Transport announced a second newbuild Incat Crowther-designed electric ferry

Auckland Transport has announced shipbuilder Incat Crowther has been commissioned to deliver the design for a second new 300-passenger electric hybrid ferry. The project will see Incat Crowther work closely with Q-West Boat Builders, Hamilton Jet and Fullers360 on the design, construction and delivery of the 32-metre vessel.
The new electric ferry gives the operator a combination of efficiency and flexibility. Designed specifically for the route, the vessel will provide an efficient, low emission, quiet service between Auckland and Devonport.
