AYRO launches extended Wingsail portfolio, announces rebranding to ‘OceanWings’

AYRO, a supplier of Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion (WASP) systems, has introduced an expanded Wingsail portfolio designed to adapt to the cargo needs of ships of most types or size, despite vastly different requirements. Additionally, the company has rebranded as ‘OceanWings’.
AS Tallink Grupp Statistics for May 2024
In May 2024, AS Tallink Grupp transported 482,457 passengers, which is a 2.7% increase compared to May 2023. The number of cargo units decreased by 5.0% compared to the same period a year ago and was 28,202 units. The number of passenger vehicles decreased by 5.8% to 68,729 vehicles in the same comparison.

ABB introduces Optimal Speed Routing to help vessels enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions

ABB has introduced a new feature to its Routing Services portfolio that will allow vessel owners to manage fuel costs on a through-voyage basis by optimizing vessel optimal route and speed at the same time. As the first solution in the market equipped to optimize track and operating speeds simultaneously against anticipated weather, the feature is included in the ABB Ability™ Routeguard onshore routing service – in a first upgrade since ABB acquired the shipping business of DTN Europe BV and DTN Philippines Inc. earlier this year.

Wärtsilä solutions for two new CMA CGM ferries

Wärtsilä will supply the engines, fuel gas supply system and thrusters for two new ro-pax ferries being built for French operator La Méridionale, a subsidiary of CMA CGM. The vessels, which have been specifically designed to minimise emissions, are to be built at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) Co., Ltd., and will operate between Marseille and Corsica. The order with Wärtsilä was booked in April 2024.

Power routing will reduce fuel costs by 6-8% for Corsica Linea

Qtagg secured an order on a digitalization of DANIELLE CASANOVA's propulsion control system, that will reduce the ship’s fuel consumption by an estimated 6-8%. The order includes power routing with EcoPilot and retrofit of governors, actuators and the pitch control system.
DANIELLE CASANOVA is the largest of Corsica Linea’s nine ships that serves routes between the French continent, Corsica, Algeria and Tunisia. The vessel is currently at port in Marseille for maintenance and technical upgrades.

Avenir starts LNG bunkering service in Germany with the first operation in the Port of Lübeck

Avenir LNG conducted its first LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operation in Germany. The transfer of the chilled fuel from the “Avenir Aspiration” to the ro-pax ferry NILS HOLGERSSON was conducted in the Port of Lübeck. After an initial LNG & bio-LNG bunker operation conducted with trucks by Avenir in 2022, this event marked another milestone as the first STS LNG bunker operation in a German port.

Carnival Corporation to absorb P&O Cruises Australia into Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Corporation announced that in March 2025, the company will sunset the P&O Cruises Australia brand and fold the Australia operations into Carnival Cruise Line.
As the P&O Cruises Australia brand retires early next year, the PACIFIC ENCOUNTER and PACIFIC ADVENTURE ships will be rebranded and operated by Carnival Cruise Line brand. PACIFIC EXPLORER will exit the fleet in February of 2025.

Stena Line can now report a significant reduction in their fuel consumption thanks to their strategic use of AI. Through its advanced Voyage Optimisation System, optimisation of vessel functions can now be done much more efficiently, while resulting in between 1-5% reduction in fuel consumption.
Baleària's 'new fast ferry MARGARITA SALAS out on sea trials

The MARGARITA SALAS of Baleària has carried out its first sea trials ahead of its expected delivery from the Armon Shipyard in Gijón at the end of June. The vessel is Baleària's second fast ferry equipped with dual fuel gas engines and is a near sister to the 2021-delivered ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, but with a 10% increase in the vessel's power and the addition of a second passenger deck.
