DFDS appoints Karen Dyrskjøt Boesen as new CFO

Karen Dyrskjøt Boesen has been appointed new CFO for the DFDS Group starting on 1 July 2024. She replaces Karina Deacon as CFO following her resignation in November 2023.
Karen will join Torben Carlsen in the Group’s Executive Board as well as the Executive Management Team.
Karen comes from a position as Group CFO at Sonnedix that is a leading international renewable solar and wind energy producer.

FRS Clipper unveils new management team

FRS Clipper welcomes Mark Collins as the incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for FRS Clipper in Canada and Chair of the Board for FRS Clipper, in the US effective 1 May 2024. FRS Clipper’s Chief Operating Officer, Gordon Dirker is also being promoted to CEO for FRS Clipper’s US entities, as of 1 May 2024.

H2 Energy and DFDS publish new hydrogen propulsion feasibility study

During the past year, H2 Energy and DFDS have worked together on a project to analyse the feasibility of retrofitting large ferries with a hydrogen propulsion system. Now, the project has been finalized contributing with important knowledge for further analysis on the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel for sea and road transport. The project was supported by the Danish Maritime Fund.

The first of two 6,500 CEU PCTCs for Wallenius Marine has been delivered

FUTURE WAY, the first of two Knud E. Hansen-designed dual fuel LNG PCTCs for Wallenius Marine, has been delivered from the CIMC Raffles shipyard in China. The 6,500 CEU capacity PCTC will be long-term chartered to the VW Group and will be followed by the sister ship WAY FORWARD in a few months.

Scenic Group unveils its next luxury yacht, EMERALD KAIA

Scenic Group has unveiled its next generation luxury ocean yacht for Emerald Cruises', an enlarged version of the two Vietnamese-built sister ships EMERALD AZZURRA and EMERALD SAKARA. Whilst the two sisters measure 110 metres in length and have a capacity for 100 passengers, EMERALD KAIA grows to 120 metres and increases its passenger capacity to 128.
EMERALD KAIA will set sail in April 2026.

DFDS March 2024 volumes
March volume numbers are compared to 2023 impacted by most of the Easter holiday period falling in March this year compared to April in 2023. In general, this increases passenger volumes and decreases freight volumes compared to 2023 for the month.
Ferry – freight: Total volumes in March 2024 were 2.7% above 2023 and down 2.5% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes in 2024 and closure of the Calais-Tilbury route in 2023.
Ferry – passenger: The number of passengers in March 2024 were 83.1% above 2023 and up 38.4% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes. The adjusted increase was driven by the Easter timing difference. The number of cars were 67.5% above 2023 and up 29.6% adjusted for Strait of Gibraltar.
