The engines with which the boat is equipped allow it to navigate both natural gas and diesel. The tests carried out at the beginning of this week have been on diesel and it is expected that in the coming days the navigation tests on natural gas will be carried out. Thus, once completed, the shipyards are expected to deliver the ship to Baleària at the end of March. 

"Despite the complicated context, we have maintained investments and projects and we are proud to incorporate, shortly, what will be the new flagship of the fleet, which combines our two strategic axes: innovation and sustainability," says Adolfo Utor, President of Baleària. 

It should be noted that this will be the longest fast ferry in the world, thanks to its 123 meters. It will have a capacity for 1,200 passengers and a warehouse for 500 linear meters of trucks and 250 cars, or alternatively 450 cars.

Commitment to LNG and digitization of on-board services

Once incorporated, the ELEANOR ROOSEVELT will become the seventh ship in the fleet to sail powered by natural gas. And it should be remembered that it will be the first high-speed in the world with engines powered by this fuel, which reduces CO2 emissions by 30% and NOx emissions by 80%. 

In addition, Baleària has installed measurement equipment and sensors on board that will make it possible to monitor real fuel consumption and calculate the efficiency of the engines. This is the third ship of the shipping company with this monitoring system, which is part of the Baleària control tower project that will use big data to make efficient decisions. This project is co-financed by CEF funds from the European Commission.
The ship will also feature all the technological innovations of the Baleària smart ship project. Among the improvements that it incorporates, the following stand out: access to accommodations by means of a QR code, which the client can receive via WhatsApp; internet service on board and WhatsApp coverage for text messages; access to the on-board digital entertainment platform through any device and pet video surveillance.
