New records for Port of Ystad
Statistics from last year show that Port of Ystad reached new record levels in 2018. Freight throughput increased, as did the number of passengers and cars.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Port of Ystad noted a record throughput and Björn Boström, Port of Ystad’s Managing Director, said, “The Port of Ystad is one of Sweden's largest ports and it is really gratifying that our and our customers’ efforts, together with continued growth in the market, give dividends.”
Port of Ystad is the principal port in Sweden for traffic to and from Poland and Bornholm. It is the country’s third largest ferry passenger port; the fifth largest in terms of the total number of ship calls and the eleventh largest in terms of total freight throughput.
Passenger volumes mainly increased in the trade to Bornholm, whereas the increase in freight volumes concerns the Polish traffic. The number of railway wagons continues to decline. The number of buses has increased considerably, which is primarily due to the fact that Bornholmslinjen operates its own bus service from Copenhagen (Bornholmslinjen took over the Ystad-Rønne route on 1 September) The number of buses travelling to and from Swinoujscie equally went up.
Both Polferries and Bornholmslinjen have increased capacity with more trips compared to the previous year.
