ForSea positive about 2021 ending

ForSea looks back on a 2021 that, despite its many challenges, leaves a positive imprint. A result that in many ways reflects new consumption and travel patterns and which shows that ForSea with its staff can adapt to two nations' regulations, recommendations and rules without sacrificing work with a focus on all guests, their experience, needs and security. 2021 was also the year when ForSea continued to focus on sustainable travel and created opportunities for guests to make active environmental choices. Diligent environmental and sustainability work shows sharp reductions in CO2 emissions, which means that Denmark's and Sweden's targets set for 2030 will be met as early as 2022.

Increase in traffic despite pandemic
Throughout 2021, ForSea has sailed between Helsingborg-Helsingör according to the normal timetable regardless of the pandemic's impact - summer breeze and storm. The year began a bit tentatively with restraint and general fear of corona infection. Passenger volumes for both cars, pedestrians and "tura" passengers initially decreased and then turned upwards.

Looking in the rear-view mirror, it can be stated that freight transport by truck has increased (even compared with a normal year). This can be seen as an effect of changing consumption patterns, as more and more orders are placed online, which in turn affects the shipping mode. For ForSea, this means an increase of 8.5% more freight transport compared to 2020 and + 3.5% compared to the normal year 2019.

Furthermore, it is noted that more and more people choose to make shorter trips, preferably by car or train before air travel. This in turn increases the now popular holiday in local environment stay or holiday, for example through continued "tura" between Sweden and Denmark. An increase of 12% more passengers is noted here compared to 2020. Through ForSea's staff who throughout the year have been responsive, flexible and adapted range and opening hours according to passengers' needs, ForSea see a 13% increase in sales in stores on board compared to the normal year 2019.

Targets for reduced CO2 levels set for the year 2030 will be met as early as 2022
In parallel with the pandemic, ForSea has continued its work to create a travel and supply on board with as little impact on the environment as possible. The ferry AURORA continues to sail with battery operation and the upgrade of TYCHO BRAHE's batteries is expected to be completed shortly. Calculations for 2022 show an expected reduction of 71% CO2 emissions compared to 2016. A reduction from 37,800 tonnes of CO2 to 11,000 tonnes. The expected reduction means that the goals for Denmark (in 2030) and Sweden (in 2030) will be reached as early as 2022.

On board, ForSea have worked purposefully to reduce food waste and CO2 footprint from food. New for the year are CO2 equivalents for all food served in restaurants and cafés. Thus, everything becomes measurable and the opportunity to produce more sustainable food is created. In addition, guests can easily compare the different offerings and make their own, active environmental choices.

"If you compare 2021 with 2019, which is classified as a "normal year", we do not reach the same result. However, summer and autumn gave us a much-needed recovery. In a way, we can follow the development of society in our figures. The increase in freight is, among other things, a result of increased online shopping. Our increase on board and the increase in passengers in 2021 compared to 2020 show how we have all found new ways to live, travel and socialize despite the pandemic. We leave 2021 with a positive feeling and look forward to 2022 ", says Kristian Durhuus, CEO of ForSea.
