ForSea focuses on inclusion and accessibility through the Sunflower program

From 1 November 2021, people with invisible disabilities who take the ferry between Helsingborg and Helsingör can wear the Sunflower symbol if they want to signal to employees and other passengers that extra time, understanding, patience or help during the crossing may be needed.

For people with invisible disabilities, such as autism, Alzheimer's, brain damage, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, etc., being in unfamiliar environments can be stressful or stressful. That is why ForSea, as the first shipping company in both Sweden and Denmark, is now joining the Sunflower program. During September and October, ForSea employees are trained in how they can create a safe and comfortable journey for the person with a disability as well as their families and fellow travelers in the best possible way.

“Everyone should feel welcome to travel with ForSea and experience both the trip and the premises as safe. The sunflower program is part of this. We have trained employees in invisible disabilities, what the sunflower program means and how they best ensure that a person who chooses to wear the sunflower has a good experience. Our mission is to connect the region and the people in it. If there are obstacles to this, it is our duty to simplify and improve. We hope through our participation in the Sunflower program to clearly signal that everyone is welcome and that we will do our utmost for each individual guest”, says Kristian Durhuus, CEO of ForSea.

The sunflower symbol is worn as a ribbon around the neck, like a keychain. The symbol signals that you have a disability and thus do not have to explain yourself in situations where anxiety, stress, confusion or the need for help arises. In addition, all staff wear the sunflower to clearly signal where to turn when needed.

At the Knowledge Center on Disability (Disability Knowledge Center), they are happy that ForSea focuses on guests with invisible disabilities:

If you have an invisible disability, it creates security to know that the employees have knowledge of what this means and are trained in understanding and helping you when you as a guest, for example, travel, are in unfamiliar surroundings and places such as amusement parks, supermarkets or hospitals. We hope that many other companies will be inspired by ForSea and join the Sunflower program as well, says head of the Knowledge Center on Disability, Dorte Nørregaard.

The sunflower band offers no special benefits. It is a signal to the employees that there is someone here who may need extra consideration, time, patience or help. It is voluntary to wear the symbol. The sunflower band is distributed free of charge in ticket sales.
