Brittany Ferries confirms the reopening of all its lines and the commissioning of its entire fleet
After two years of covid crisis, Brittany Ferries are resuming its activity for the 2022 season with the return of the BRETAGNE and BARFLEUR ships, the reopening of the historic Roscoff/Plymouth line and the strengthening of the France - Ireland links.
“We are delighted to confirm this good news to our staff, our customers and our port partners for this 2022 season which is starting,” says Christophe Mathieu, Chairman of the Management Board of Brittany Ferries. “This resumption of full activity coincides with the arrival of the SALAMANCA, our first vessel running on LNG, a symbol of our commitment to the energy transition that we have undertaken. As part of the renewal of our fleet, three new vessels that are also more virtuous will have joins the SALAMANCA by 2025".
The highlights of the 2022 season
Hello ! SALAMANCA (Portsmouth-Bilbao)
Brittany Ferries' first LNG (liquefied natural gas) vessel will make its first commercial crossing from Portsmouth to Bilbao on March 27. It will also operate once a week between Portsmouth and Cherbourg, its home port. Thanks to LNG, the SALAMANCA promises to significantly reduce emissions, almost completely reducing particulate matter (PM) and sulfur (SOx) and reducing nitrogen dioxide (NOx) by 90%.
Return from Brittany (St Malo - Portsmouth)
After 18 months of shutdown, the most emblematic of the Company's ships, the first to have been built by and for Brittany Ferries, and today the oldest (1989), is back in service. BRETAGNE will operate daily on the Saint-Malo - Portsmouth line, from March 26, 2022.
Reopening of the Roscoff - Plymouth line
The winter interruption of the historic Compagnie Roscoff – Plymouth line is coming to an end. PONT-AVEN and ARMORIQUE will ensure, from March 28, respectively one and five round trips per week.
BARFLEUR on its original line, Cherbourg-Poole
The BARFLEUR meanwhile, after two years of immobilization and several connections operated in freight on the Caen-Portsmouth line will operate daily again on Cherbourg - Poole from April 4th.
Strengthening France-Ireland links
Since Brexit, Ireland has become increasingly important for Brittany Ferries, particularly for freight activity, with the opening in 2021 of direct lines from Cherbourg and Le Havre to Rosslare. Lines highly appreciated by the transport sector because they offer a relevant alternative to the mainland/Ireland links via the United Kingdom.
For the 2022 tourist season (April/end of October), Brittany Ferries is strengthening its passenger connections, very popular with both French and Irish customers. Two round trips from Roscoff to Cork will be provided by PONT-AVEN on Friday evening and ARMORIQUE on Tuesday at the end of the day. The doubling of this line, the shortest from France to Ireland, makes it possible to meet growing customer demand. With the Cherbourg-Rosslare maritime route, also open to passengers, Brittany Ferries offers travelers the possibility of combining a different outward and return line and a choice of variable length of stay 4, 5, 7 days or more...
