Baleària celebrates 10 years on the routes between United States and Bahamas with one million passengers transported
Baleària celebrates the tenth anniversary of its first voyage linking the United States and the Bahamas. The shipping company began operating in December 2011 with the route between Fort Lauderdale (Florida, United States) and Freeport (Grand Bahama, Bahamas), and since 2019, it also connects the United States port with the Bahamian island of Bimini. In this first decade, the Baleària Caribbean subsidiary has transported more than 1,100,000 passengers and nearly 100,000 containers of goods.
The shipping company has organized a double meeting to celebrate this milestone at the facilities of the port of Freeport aboard the fast ferry JAUME II, as well as in Port Everglades (Florida, United States), where around 300 people have attended, including authorities and delegates from the different interest groups of the company. During the event, the highest representatives of Baleària have distributed a series of commemorative plaques in gratitude to the various authorities for their collaboration and cooperation during this decade.
"The performance of these ten years confirms our commitment to expansion and internationalization towards such strategic markets as the Caribbean, as well as the consolidation of our business model in a geographical context where there were no regular maritime connections for passengers," said Adolfo Utor, president of Baleària, who also recalled “the fundamental contribution of maritime transport in the socio-economic and sustainable development of the Caribbean country”.
Baleària has a total of six international routes, concentrated in two markets: the Caribbean and North Africa. In addition to the two routes between the United States and the Bahamas, the shipping company has expanded its international positioning with different connections that link Spain and France with Morocco and Algeria.
Currently, Baleària has more than fifty people working on the Caribbean routes between the ground staff and the crews of the ship that operates these connections: the fast ferry JAUME II, which currently performs four weekly services, and up to six in high season. The ship, which has a capacity for 650 passengers, offers comfort, speed and reliability in service.
