Silverstream’s measurement backed by RINA

Silverstream had its Silverstream performance-assessment methodology independently assessed by RINA, which has issued a statement concluding that the methodology is suitable for assessing and quantifying the energy savings associated with the Silverstream System in service.

The methodology draws on recognised industry standards and guidelines, and gives shipowners and Silverstream a common, independently assessed basis for agreeing how performance is measured, both at contract stage and throughout the life of the installation.

The review examined the technical methodology behind Silverstream’s performance assessment framework, including the assumptions and calculation principles of how gross and net savings are calculated, how speed-increase effects and environmental influences are treated, and the overall consistency and transparency of the company’s approach.

The announcement builds on RINA's Approval in Principle (AIP), granted to Silverstream last December for its Air Lubrication System (ALS) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) calculation and testing methodology, which supports the use of the Silverstream® System in EEDI calculations.

"Independent verification is what separates a promising technology from an investable one. Having already granted Silverstream Approval in Principle, we're pleased this review confirms the rigour behind their performance claims," said Pino Spadafora, Marine Market Development Vice President, at RINA.

He was complemented by Noah Silberschmidt, CEO and Founder of Silverstream, who added:

“Our customers want reliable performance data to inform their decisions, which is why we have worked with RINA, a leading global class society, providing them with access to our data and methodology. This endorsement is a vote of confidence and demonstrates our commitment to transparency, setting clear expectations and delivering results.”

Silverstream’s expertise in providing fuel and emissions savings for a wide range of vessel segments was evidenced when the company celebrated reaching a milestone of 164 installations earlier this year.

RINA has been a long-term partner throughout Silverstream's growth journey, with the two companies collaborating for more than a decade. Silverstream currently has 19 RINA-classed vessels in service, spanning RoRo, RoPax, cruise and PCTC segments, rising to 37 once vessels on order are included.
