SEK 33 million financial support proposed for Gotland's ferry traffic
Freight and ticket prices for ferry traffic to and from Gotland have increased. To ease the situation, the Swedish government proposes financial support of SEK 33 million for 2023 for ferry traffic to and from Gotland. The aid is subject to rapid approval from the European Commission.
The prevailing economic and geopolitical situation in combination with increased inflation has contributed to raising freight and ticket prices for ferry traffic to and from Gotland to ever higher levels.
- Increased freight and ticket prices for the ferry traffic to and from Gotland have affected the economic situation negatively for Gotland residents. The proposed support provides better conditions to limit or avoid further price increases for ferry passengers, says Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson.
The government's proposal for financial support of SEK 33 million for 2023 for ferry traffic to and from Gotland requires rapid approval in accordance with the EU's state aid regulations.
The government intends to submit this proposal to the Swedish parliament in the upcoming autumn amending budget for 2023.
On 20 September, the Swedish government submits the budget bill for 2024 and the autumn amendment budget for 2023.
