New ferry setup on the Lysefjord to be introduced in May
FerryOn 15 May, Rødne Fjord Cruise will deploy the 1997-built ferry PETTER DASS, which can carry 299 passengers and 50 cars, on the route between Lauvvik and Lysebotn at the end of the Lysefjord in Norway. This follows the award of a new 10-year contract with the public transport company Kolumbus and the Rogaland County municipality.
PETTER DASS, currently owned by Boreal Sjø AS, will operate the route each year from mid-May until the end of September, a period when the service is mainly used by tourists during the high season.
The new contract also includes the introduction of the newly built catamaran car and passenger ferry RYGERLYS, which is currently being completed at Oma Baatbyggeri. The fully electric newbuild—equipped with a 2.7 MWh capacity battery pack—has capacity for 97 passengers and 12 cars. With a service speed of 18 knots, it will enter service on 1 July and will form the core vessel on the route year-round under the new contract.
