RMC in Rauma to build a ferry for Mols Linien’s Bornholm service
Rauma Marine Constructions Oy (RMC) in Rauma and Mols-Linien have signed the agreement for building a 158m ro-pax ferry at a value of ca. €68 million.
The ferry, which will be built entirely in Rauma, will be delivered in time for Mols-Linien's take-over of the traffic to Bornholm. Yesterday, on June 21, Mols Linien and the Danish Government signed the contract for the period September 2018 – September 2028.
The ship design work for the new ferry has already started in Rauma, the construction is supposed to begin in Spring 2017.
The deal is good news for the shipbuilding industry on the Finnish west coast and for the Finnish shipbuilding industry in general, with an impact on employment of about one thousand person-years. Rauma was shocked when the former STX Shipyard closed two years ago in a restructuring move.
The Mols-Linien order is the first newbuilding order after RMC was set up in summer 2014. The company has since been mainly active in modernization and refurbishment projects, recently e.g. of the Silja Line sister vessels SILJA SERENADE and SILJA SYMPHONY.
