Havila becomes the majority owner of Fjord 1
Sogn og Fjordane County (Norway) and Havila Group have agreed a deal that ensures Havila a majority ownership in ferry company Fjord 1.
In November 2015 Sogn og Fjordane decided to sell its shares in Fjord 1 to competitor Torghatten. The county owned 59% of the shares, whereas Havila owned 41%.
The Norwegian Competition Authority ruled that if Torghatten would purchase a 50% stake in Fjord 1, it would put a fair competition at risk and would drive the prices up.
Now it has been agreed that Havila is increasing its stake from 41 percent to 67 percent, while Sogn og Fjordane county sells down from 59 to 33 percent.
It is further envisaged that the rest of the shares can be sold within a period of about two years, to --preferably-- regional investors.
Havila Shipping operates 27 vessels within subsea construction, anchor handling, platform supply and multi-field rescue recovery services. Headquartered in Fosnavåg, Norway, and with offices in Brazil and Asia, the company can draw on more than 30 years experience in offshore supply through its main shareholder Havila AS. The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
