Corsica Ferries to inaugurate new links
Ferry Corsica Ferries is restructuring its Tyrrhenian network by adding new lines.
Next spring it will welcome a new flagship, bought for €91 million from Tallink, and renamed PASCAL LOTA to honour the late patron of the group. In the meantime, the French company is evaluating to launch the unprecedented Piombino - Porto Vecchio regular line by summer 2017.
For the time being, Corsica Ferries reaches Porto Vecchio from mainland only through the Nice-Porto Vecchio - Golfo Aranci and the Toulon - Porto Torres-Porto Vecchio lines.
As from early November the company has been providing two weekly departures on the new Ajaccio - Porto Torres line served by Mega series units. Last summer the shipping company returned to Sardinia-based port after 30 years operating the Toulon - Porto Torres - Porto Vecchio service.
Regarding the high season, Corsica Ferries is still evaluating whether or not maintaining the Ajaccio - Porto Torres link, while the Toulon - Porto Torres, operating up to three weekly rotations in low season, and the Nice - Golfo Aranci, with two weekly rotations, are confirmed.
The new initiatives come after a positive 2016 summer season: from May 15 to September 30 the company recorded overall 2,880,000 passengers, 75% of which heading to Corse from France or Italy (+2% versus summer 2015), transported 440,000 passengers from Sardinia to Livorno and achieved unexpected results (55,000 passengers) from France (Toulon and Nice) to Sardinia.
