After PRIMULA SEAWAYS comes a worried shipyard
PRIMULA SEAWAYS has left the Floating drydock nr. III after the successful extension with a 30m midship section. She will shortly be introduced on the Ghent-Gothenburg route.
The shipyard announced not to answer any media inquiries, after Genting decided to centralize all its newbuilding activities in the three yards of MV Werften, de facto excluding Lloyd Werft.
The approximately 430 employees of the Lloyd-Werft are now awaiting clear statements from owner Genting, on the perspective of the company.
"We still do not know how it will go," said Council Chairman Daniel Müller. "We miss a binding statement of Genting and also by the board," criticized Müller. The current work on the two car carriers HÖEGH MAPUTO and AUTO PRESTIGE are subcontracts of neighboring German Dry Docks AG.
About five weeks ago, the Genting Group surprisingly informed that the billion-orders were going exclusively to the three newly acquired yards in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund, which now operate under the name MV-yards. Initially it was planned that the final outfitting of ships was going to take place at the Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven.
The river cruise ships should even have been fully produced in Bremerhaven.
It is unclear what will happen with the production area and the recently opened Design Center. It will be no longer in Bremerhaven but in Finland that the new 200,001GT cruise for Star Cruises will be designed. Bremerhaven designers had put their hopes on this mega project.
Council head Müller complained to the media that there is no communication on the part of Lloyd's Board.
What led exactly to the decision of Genting to exclude Lloyd Werft has so far not been announced.
It is also unclear whether DFDS will use an option for the extension of two additional ro-ro ferries PETUNIA SEAWAYS and MAGNOLIA SEAWAYS.
