NYK Line’s just delivered LNG-fuelled 7,000 CEU PCTC JASMINE LEADER entered the port of Hiroshima for the first time. The vessel is NYK’s third LNG-fuelled PCTC and the first of four to be delivered from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd.

AS Tallink Grupp Statistics for February 2023

In February 2023 AS Tallink Grupp transported 355,796 passengers, which is a 51.3% increase compared to February 2022. The number of cargo units decreased by 18.7% to 26,784 units and the number of passenger vehicles increased by 11.0% to 50,259 units in the same comparison.

Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö had sales of EUR 185.8 million (EUR 122.9 million) in 2022. Operating result of EUR 4.1 million (EUR -38.1 million) and result for the period ended at EUR -2.7 million (EUR -30.6 million).

2,624,674 passengers travelled on the Eckerö Group's ships, which was 93% more than the same period last year (1,357,442).

The amount of cargo units amounted to 159,228, which was 4% less than the same period last year (165,567).

Höegh Autoliners exercises option to purchase PCTC HÖEGH BERLIN from Scorpio Group

Höegh Autoliners ASA has agreed with Scorpio Group to terminate the bareboat charter of the PCTC vessel HÖEGH BERLIN and purchase it for a price of USD 34.25 million. The vessel was taken over on 1 March 2023.

HÖEGH BERLIN was built by Höegh at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (“DSME”) in 2005 and has a capacity of 7,850 CEU and is one of a series of vessels Höegh built at DSME between 2004 and 2010.

The first of P&O Ferries giant double-enders for its Dover-Calais service has been delivered from China's Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). The 47,394 gt P&O PIONEER will be followed by its sister P&O LIBERTÈ in the fourth quarter this year.

Designed by Denmark's OSK-ShipTech, the 230.5m x 30.8m ro-paxes will be able to carry up to 1,500 passengers and 3,600 lanemetres of freight.

Baleària charters HONFLEUR for six months

The immediate future of the LNG ro-pax HONFLEUR looks to have been resolved, with Baleària taking the 1,680-passenger capacity, 2,600 lanemetre ferry on charter for six months. HONFLEUR is currently lying alongside Poland’s Nauta Shiprepair yard in Gdynia.

Renamed RUSADIR, Baleària will put the vessel in service between Malaga and Melilla and have an option to buy it at the end of the charter period. RUSADIR was an ancient Punic and Roman town at what is now Melilla.

Finnlines’ 2022 financial review

The Finnlines Group’s revenue amounted to EUR 736.1 million (+27%) in 2022. EBITDA ended at EUR 221.2 (EUR 160.3 million), net result EUR 133.3 million (EUR 74.7 million).

Finnlines transported 750,000 cargo units (785,000), shipped 138,000 cars (171,000) and carried 648,000 private and commercial passengers (572,000) during the year.

With a traditional keel-laying ceremony at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), the first module of the newbuilding number 784, weighing more than 154 tons, was lowered by crane onto the blocks. In accordance with maritime custom, a coin was placed under the keel for good fortune. SEAROAD I will be the largest vessel in SeaRoad’s history. The new 210-metre-long vessel will join SEAROAD MERSEY II and replace SeaRoad’s charter vessel, LIEKUT, to operate between Melbourne and Devonport from the second quarter of 2024.

Celestyal Cruises acquires former HAL-owned RYNDAM as it starts its fleet expansion programme

Following delays during the COVID-19 pandemic, Celestyal Cruises has started its planned fleet expansion programme with the acquisition of the cruise vessel AEGEAN GODDES from Greece’s Seajets. The 1994-built vessel is Holland America Line’s former RYNDAM, and recently operated as PACIFIC ARIA for P&O Cruises Australia.

Following a major EUR 20 million refit in the Perama Repair Zone, the 1,625-passenger capacity vessel will enter service for her new owners as CELESTYAL JOURNEY.

Green Ray project to develop solutions minimising methane slip from LNG-fuelled engines

A consortium including technology group Wärtsilä has secured European Union funding to develop solutions minimising methane slip from marine engines, advancing the environmental and climate benefits of LNG as a ship fuel. Coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Green Ray project brings together several companies from across the shipping value chain: shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique, ship owner CMA CGA, classification society DNV GL, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, ship manager MSC Cruises Management, non-profit organisation Revolve Water and energy major Shell.
