Viking Line 2024 half year financial report

Sales amounted to EUR 219.1 million (EUR 226.3 million) for Viking Line in the January - June 2024 period. Operating income totalled EUR -4.3 million (EUR 17.1 million, including the EUR 8.6 million capital gain from the sale of ROSELLA.). Income before taxes totalled EUR -12.4 million (EUR 9.4 million, including the EUR 8.6 million capital gain from the sale of ROSELLA.). Income before taxes totalled EUR -12.5 million (EUR 7.2 million, including the EUR 8.6 million capital gain from the sale of ROSELLA.). Investments mainly in VIKING CINDERELLA and BIRKA GOTLAND totalled EUR 15.4 million (EUR 7.7 million).

DFDS Q2 2024 interim report and July volumes

DFDS reported a revenue growth of 9% in Q2, ending at DKK 7.6 billion. EBITDA declined from DKK 1.37 billion in 2023 to DKK 1.23 billion, and EBIT declined from DKK 718 million to DKK 519 million. July freight volumes were 9.4% above 2023 and up 6.3% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes in 2024 and closure of the Calais-Tilbury route in 2023. The number of passengers in July was 40.0% above 2023 and down 3.1% adjusted for the addition of the Strait of Gibraltar routes.

Godby’s MISTRAL to go on DFDS charter

MISTRAL was chartered to the Spanish ro-ro operator Suardiaz Shipping Lines from January until June 2024, with options. The intention was that MISTRAL would trade in Suardiaz's new service between Vigo, Spain and Liverpool, UK. This, however, did not turn out as expected and MISTRAL was on relet to Spanish Peregar from February until June and thereafter continuing directly with Peregar until September. The trade is Algeciras-Tanger Med.
Directly after redelivery from Peregar, that is in the beginning of October, MISTRAL will go on time charter to DFDS minimum until December 2024.

Tallink Grupp appoints Management Board Member Piret Mürk-Dubout into additional role of Managing Director of Tallink Silja AB

Tallink Grupp has announced that, following the planned retirement of Ats Joorits from the position as Managing Director of the group’s Swedish subsidiary Tallink Silja AB on 31 August 2024, the group’s Management Board Member Piret Mürk-Dubout will assume the additional role of the subsidiary’s Managing Director. Mrs Mürk-Dubout will take on this additional role in the company, while also maintaining her role on the group’s Management board, from 1 September 2024.

Telenor Maritime announced a strategic partner agreement with Veracity by DNV, establishing Telenor Maritime as a trusted data partner with automated ingestion into the Veracity ecosystem. This collaboration enables their customers to improve and speed up automatic reporting services on MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) and EU ETS (climate gas emissions), offered in cooperation with Maranics.
MEYER WERFT to build four new ships for Disney Cruise Line

MEYER WERFT will build four additional cruise ships for Disney Cruise Line’s that will join the fleet between 2027 and 2031. The ship names, designs, and itineraries are still in development.
“We are very happy to continue our partnership with Disney Cruise Line and build four additional outstanding ships over the next seven years. We now have eight ships for Disney Cruise Line in our order book which reflects the trust in our capabilities and hard work of our team”, says Bernard Meyer.

Underwater Radiated Noise: research project HyPNoS reveals ways to preserve underwater life

International shipping is increasingly exploring measures to conserve and protect underwater life. To this end, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is proposing the future monitoring of Underwater Radiated Noise (URN), which may lead to the establishment of thresholds combined with long-term monitoring requirements for certain regions. In the HyPNoS (Hydrodynamic Propeller Noise Monitoring System) research project, propulsion supplier SCHOTTEL, together with project funder Transport Canada and partner BC Ferries, investigated the emission of URN from ship propulsion systems in the waters off Vancouver, Canada.

Brittany Ferries to become majority shareholder of Condor Ferries

Brittany Ferries is to become the majority owner of Condor Ferries following recent changes in the ownership structure. Subject to approval by the regulatory authorities in Jersey and Guernsey, the French ferry operator will assume majority ownership and operational control of the Channel Islands-based company in the next few weeks.
Once approved, Brittany Ferries will own 51% of Condor Ferries, with Columbia Threadneedle retaining a minority shareholding.
Infortar increases its Tallink ownership to 68.47%

Infortar's public and voluntary takeover offer to Tallink's shareholders was accepted by 21.71% of Tallink's shareholders. Infortar will invest EUR 88.8 million to purchase Tallink shares, increasing its stake in Tallink to 68.47%, while Tallink will remain listed on the stock exchange.
Kennacraig and Port Askaig reach significant milestones in preparation for new Islay vessels

A programme of CMAL-led preparatory work to upgrade two ferry terminals on the Islay route has reached key milestones, paving the way for delivery of new vessels by the end of the year. Upgrades to the south berth of Kennacraig ferry terminal are now complete, while Port Askaig ferry terminal fendering work has also finished, following a six-week closure, allowing ferry services to resume.
