Armas Trasmediterránea to Operate Canary Islands–Cádiz Public Interest Line for Another Year

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through the Directorate General of the Merchant Navy, has approved an extension for the Armas Trasmediterránea Group to continue operating the Cádiz–Canary Islands public service obligation line for an additional year. The contract will be automatically extended from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.
The line connects Cádiz with the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and La Palma, with the CIUDAD DE VALENCIA ferry as the primary vessel, supported by a second ship, the VOLCÁN DE TINAMAR.

CANOPEE’S Two-Year Journey with OceanWings: Wind Propulsion Proves Effective

Two years after its launch, CANOPEE —the first industrial cargo vessel equipped with four automated OceanWings®—has clearly demonstrated the potential of wind-assisted propulsion. Operational data confirms average fuel savings of 1.3 tonnes per day per wingsail, equivalent to around 300kW of equivalent engine power.

CHINJIF and JIFCO to resume Japan-China route following five-year absence

China-Japan International Ferry Co. (CHINJIF) and Japan-China International Ferry Co. (JIFCO), which operate the Osaka/Kobe (Japan)-Shanghai (China) route, announced that passenger transport between Japan and China will resume on 28 June 2025, following a more than five-year absence.
Currently, CHINJIF and JIFCO operate the 2024-built JIAN ZHEN HAO and 1994-built XIN JIAN ZHEN on the 674 nautical mile Osaka/Kobe (Japan)-Shanghai (China) route.

Fincantieri delivers VIKING VESTA in Ancona

VIKING VESTA, the second of a new series of somewhat larger cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for the shipowner Viking, has been delivered today at the Ancona shipyard. With a gross tonnage of about 54,300 tonnes, VIKING VESTA is equipped with 499 cabins and is able to accommodate 998 passengers on board.
Fincantieri and Viking, also, recently announced the first cruise ship in the world to be powered by hydrogen stored onboard for both propulsion and onboard electricity generation, the VIKING LIBRA, with delivery scheduled for late 2026.

Carnival Corporation & plc Q2 2025 Outshines Q2 2024 with Record Revenues and Tripled Adjusted Net Income
Carnival Corporation & plc's Q2 2025 financial results significantly outperformed its Q2 2024 performance, achieving record revenues of USD 6.3 billion, up 9.5% from USD 5.78 billion, and a nearly USD 475 million improvement in net income. Adjusted net income more than tripled to USD 470 million, driven by record net yields (up 6.4% in constant currency) and strong demand. The company also surpassed its 2026 SEA Change financial targets 18 months early, highlighting robust operational and financial progress compared to the prior year.
VILLE DE BORDEAUX Saves 1.7 Metric Tonnes of Fuel Daily with bound4blue’s eSAIL

bound4blue's eSAIL wind propulsion technology has proven its value, with Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore (BVS)-assessed fuel savings of 1.7 metric tonnes per day, and peaks up to 5.4 tonnes, on the Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) ro-ro VILLE DE BORDEAUX. The Airbus-chartered vessel, fitted with three 22-metre eSAILs® in 2024, achieved these savings without weather routing, aligning with LDA's real-time fuel consumption data.

SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V delivered to TT-Line Tasmania

The Tasmanian Spirit of Tasmania (TT-Line Company PTY Ltd.) ordered two LNG-powered ro-pax ferries from Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) for the challenging open sea route to Australia. The second vessel, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V, has now been completed and delivered. Sister ship, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV was delivered in September last year.
The ro-paxes will operate between Geelong and Devonport on Australia's Bass Strait, a route known for its challenging sea conditions, for which these vessels have been specially built. The ships will replace the two sister ships, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA I and II, built in Finland in the 1990s. The passenger, vehicle and freight capacity of the new vessels is significantly greater than that of its predecessors.

DFDS Celebrates 150 Years of Maritime Connection of The Esbjerg–UK Route

DFDS marks the 150th anniversary of the iconic Esbjerg–UK route, a vital freight corridor that has connected Denmark and the United Kingdom since the inaugural voyage in 1875. Each year the route handles more than 100.000 single trailers - equivalent to 1.5 million lane metres of cargo - making it an important freight link in Northern Europe.

Echandia Secures Financing from S2G Investments, Increasing Funding Round to SEK 325 Million
Echandia has secured long-term financing from S2G Investments, a U.S.-based firm, as part of a SEK 325 million (USD 34 million) funding round announced in March 2025. This investment, Echandia's first from a U.S. investor, supports its expansion in North America, including a new facility in Marysville, Washington, and advances its R&D and production capacity.
Deltamarin Wins Basic and Detail Design Contract for Six Ro-Pax Vessels for Grimaldi Lines

Deltamarin has signed a design and engineering contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) for six new ro-pax vessels ordered by the Grimaldi Group.
The agreement includes basic and detail design for the "Next Generation Med" class vessels, which will be deployed across key Mediterranean routes under the Grimaldi Lines and Minoan Lines brands.
Each 229-metre vessel will feature 3,300 lane metres for rolling freight, space for over 300 passenger vehicles, and capacity for up to 2,500 passengers. Accommodation includes more than 300 cabins for over 1,200 guests.

Stena Line’s Methanol-Ready Hybrid Ro-Ro Vessel STENA FUTURA Completes Sea Trials

Stena Line has announced that STENA FUTURA, the first of two new NAOS-designed 147-metre methanol-ready hybrid ro-ro vessels destined for the Irish Sea, has successfully completed its sea trials at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Weihai, China.
STENA FUTURA is on schedule to enter service on the Belfast-Heysham route in late summer, while sister ship STENA CONNECTA will follow in early 2026.
Tersan Builds 60-car Capacity Ferry For Fjord1

At Tersan Shipyard in Turkey, a new battery-hybrid ferry is being built for Norwegian operator Fjord1, based on the LMG 60-DEH V design by LMG Marin. The 60-car, double-ended ferry, developed in collaboration with Fjord1, will serve the Rysjedalsvika–Rutledal–Krakhella–Losna route for Skyss.
Equipped with a 6,000 kWh battery package, the vessel can charge at up to 8,800 kW from the shore grid. This project marks the 10th vessel LMG Marin has designed for Fjord1 since 2005.
DFDS buys Channel Island veteran freight ro-ro COMMODORE GOODWILL

The future of Condor Ferries (now Brittany Ferries) veteran freight ro-ro COMMODORE GOODWILL has been confirmed with news that new Channel Islands ferry operator DFDS has bought the vessel. The 29-year old 1,250 lanemetre capacity ro-ro has maintained the lifeline freight route to both Guernsey and Jersey since entering service in 1996.
