The Melilla-Peninsula Public Service Contract attracts no interest

The renewal of the Public Service Contract (PSC) linking Melilla with the mainland ports of Almeria and Malaga has gone unattended with no bids received. The PSC, which offered up to EUR 3.5 million for the one-year contract, comes into force on 1 May this year.

BC Ferries names and christens the first two Island Class ferries

BC Ferries revealed the names of its first two Island Class Ferries at a specialnaming ceremony at Victoria’s Point Hope Maritime, the company said in its release. ISLAND DISCOVERY and ISLAND AURORA are the newest vessels to enter the fleet and will enter service in mid-2020, serving the Powell River – Texada Island and Port McNeill – Alert Bay – Sointula routes, respectively.

Automatic ferry enters regular service following world-first crossing with passengers onboard

Kongsberg Maritime are proud to announce the world’s first adaptive ferry transit conducted during normal service. This landmark event, which took place last week on a vessel fully loaded with passengers and vehicles and demonstrated fully automatic control from dock to dock, is a key step forward in the integration of autonomous technology into everyday shipping operations. EIB supports refurbishment of Port of Ystad to accommodate climate-friendly vessels

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a SEK 445 million (EUR 41.75 m) loan agreement with the Municipality of Ystad. The port in the southern-Swedish town is a busy connection point to the Polish Port of Swinoujscie and the Danish island of Bornholm. The financing will be used to expand the quays to accommodate new, more environmentally friendly, LNG vessels of over 240 meters in length, which will start operating next year.

American Cruise Lines Signs 20-Year New Docking Agreement with Vicksburg

American Cruise Lines announced that it has signed a new 20 year docking agreement with the city of Vicksburg, MS. The new agreement was finalized yesterday by City officials and includes a financial contribution from American Cruise Lines for improvements to the docking area as well as funding for beautification of the facility. In the agreement, American will pay the City of Vicksburg a per-passenger fee and the Line will receive priority docking for its ships along a section of the Vicksburg riverfront.
