DFDS expands island of Ireland and UK logistics network through acquisition

DFDS has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of McBurney Transport Group headquartered in Northern Ireland. The company is focused on moving cold chain and dry goods in trailers by road and ferry between island of Ireland and the UK.

Molslinjen lowers the price on the Kattegat

Despite the recession and energy crisis, Molslinjen's Kattegat ferries are now entering 2023 with lowered prices. More cars and passengers will be on the fast ferries in the new year, when Molslinjen will increase capacity.

Molslinjen lowers the prices for the fast ferry trips across the Kattegat at the turn of the new year, despite high energy prices and a lurking recession.

The lowest price for a trip across the Kattegat falls by DKK 50 to DKK 249 - and there will be many low-cost tickets to be found at the new price.

MacGregor has secured an order to supply ro-ro equipment to two Pure Car and Truck Carriers for K Line

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured a large order to supply ro-ro equipment for two 6,900 CEU Pure Car and Truck Carriers PCTC to be built at Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd. for K Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd) in Japan.

Fjord Line is rebuilding single-fuel LNG-ships to dual-fuel

Fjord Line has decided to rebuild the two LNG-ships STAVANGERFJORD and BERGENSFJORD from single-fuel LNG-engines to dual-fuel LNG/MGO-engines. After two years of a global pandemic and government-imposed travel restrictions, Fjord Line had the best-ever high season revenue wise in 2022. Unfortunately, increases in the LNG fuel costs has led to a non-sustainable financial situation for Fjord Line.

Preferred bidder named to build two new CalMac vessels for Little Minch

The preferred bidder has been named for a contract to build two new ferries to support the communities at Uig, Lochmaddy and Tarbert (Harris). Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) intends to award the contract to the Cemre Marin Endustri A.S shipyard in Turkey, following a 10 day standstill period.

All time high for cruise ships in Gothenburg

A total of 81 cruise ships called at the Port of Gothenburg in 2022. That is seven calls more than the previous record season of 2014.
“It is a big increase following of the pandemic, even though it is other tragic circumstances that are behind the upturn to a large extent,” says Nicole Brattåsen, Cruise Operations Manager at the Gothenburg Port Authority.

Azerbaijan’s ASCO orders third passenger/vehicle/train ferry at domestic shipbuilder Baku Shipyard

The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Co (ASCO) has ordered a third passenger/vehicle/train ferry from local shipbuilder Baku Shipyard. The newbuilding contract was signed on 22 December by Rauf Valiyev, chairman of ASCO and Elshad Nuriyev, chairman of Baku Shipyard.

No delivery date has yet been given for the new ferry, which will be a sistership of the two previous 8,523 gt vessels AZERBAIJAN, built in 2021 and ZARIFA ALIYEVA, built in 2022, both by the Baku Shipyard.
