The Original Japanese Sleep Capsules Have Arrived in Europe!
Audience Systems are launching an exciting rest concept to the cruise and ferry industry in the UK and Europe – Kotobuki’s original Japanese sleep capsules. The first sleep capsules were designed by Kotobuki in 1979 for capsule hotels - a genuinely innovative response to the pressures on space and time in cities like Tokyo and Osaka. The subject of numerous articles and documentaries, the rest of the world saw them as something exotic - and uniquely Japanese.
However, since then, sleep capsules have become far more commonplace. Kotobuki has installed over 60,000 of them, and not just in Japan. Throughout Asia and beyond, they can be found in hospitals, banks, bus stations and hotels, and were recently installed on one of Stena Line’s ferries.
A key advantage of sleep capsules is their small footprint. Two stacked capsules can be built with entrances on opposite sides, allowing private access to each capsule, and effectively creating mini-rooms. Alternatively, the sleep capsules can be installed in their most space-efficient layout – in two layers and all accessed from the same side.
Kotobuki sleep capsules are not just boxes either. Today, they are sleek, comfortable and modern. In a choice of two widths, they boast a high level of amenities and privacy. Interiors are specifically designed for relaxation and include adjustable ventilation and lighting, sound insultation, and device charge points. Options such as mirrors, shelves and clothes rails can be added to create the perfect personal recharge space.
Kotobuki’s sleep capsules offer fuss-free installation too. They arrive in kit form, and can be carried on board through any standard doorway. So it’s simple for Audience Systems to install them in existing or new ships, on any floor. They are hygienic, easy to clean and offer fast turnaround between occupants.
