Tallink updated its beer and wine selection

In the upcoming weeks, Tallink changes its current beer and wine selection and launches a special anniversary craft beer to celebrate company’s thirty years in business. Tallink 30 anniversary beers are brewed in Purtse, Estonia.

The new ship beers were chosen during a blind tasting of 40 beers from 14 breweries in Estonia, Sweden, Finland and the UK. The new ship porter is Tartu Pühaste Lighthouse porter (5,8%), which compared to regular eight percent alcohol content porters is much lighter but has a very beautiful silky texture and depth of flavour derived from cocoa beans from Uganda, organic vanilla from Madagascar and coffee.

According to Pühaste Brewery manager Üllar Kaljurand, porters originally contained less alcohol than the modern porters do. “There is nothing new about a lighter porter. The first porters had less than two percent of alcohol content compared to a regular porter between five to six percent alcohol content,” said Kaljurand. “When pairing beer with food, I’d recommend a simple rule: the darker the drink, the darker the food to enjoy it with. I’d recommend enjoying Tallink new ship porter with meat and BBQ dishes, but also with dark chocolate desserts.”

For the first time ever, Tallink chose as the ship’s new official beer an organic one from Nils Oscarbrewery in Sweden. Kapten Balder organic unfiltered lager (5,1%) is brewed from a unique Balder malt known as the malt richest in taste on the market in Sweden, malted only 60 kilometres from the brewery. Organic malt lager beer has a citrusy aroma and pairs well with grilled meat and seafood.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Tallink also launched a special anniversary beer brew, chosen during a degustation among various breweries in the Nordic countries and the UK. Tallink 30 anniversary brew comes from Purtse brewery, Estonia and includes three different beers: semi-dry and fruity “Baltic Sea Rhapsody” New England IPA (4,7%), fresh and slightly bitter “Wave Breaker” pale ale (5,5%) and a fruity amber lager “Wild Sea” (6,5%) with an acidic tangerine aftertaste. The beer bottles are illustrated with fun characters who have interesting stories to tell about the Baltic Sea, Tallink ships and the history that has blended them into one over the past three decades.

In addition to beers, Tallink also selected its new ship wines. The new white wine is a fresh and aromatic Montgravet Sauvignon Blanc from France, a beautiful drinking wine to enjoy with fish and seafood, and also fresh salads dressed with olive oil and lemon. The official red wine is an intense and fruity Spanish Allegranza Tempranillo-Shiraz, that pairs well with grilled meat, chicken and vegetables, hard cheeses and fruity desserts.

To keep up with the rosé wine boom – in France, the rosé wine sales passed the white wine last year – Tallink also chose its first rosé ship wine, the light and fruity pale-coloured Henri Gaillard Rosé from South of France,  an ideal choice to accompany light summery snacks, berries and pasta in light creamy sauce.

The new official ship sparkling wine is a perfect aperitif and drinking wine Aurea Blanc de Blancs is entirely made of four different white grapes. The wider range of grapes give the Tallink new sparkling wine a rich taste and intensity with more complex nuances. To compare the intensity, Proseccos are made only from one type of grape, the Glera grape.

The ship’s new official Champagne is Ayala Brut Majeur Extra Age, which as the name refers, is a true vintage Champagne – instead of a regular Champagne that is aged on the lees for a minimum of 15 months, Tallink ship Champagne has aged for four years, giving it a more intense aroma and depth in flavour.
