SELANDIA breaks record in running hours
The Fincantieri vessels: SUECIA, SELANDIA and BRITANNIA all have two engines of the same type on board, and passing 100,000 running hours on this type of engine is a world record, as we are the only ship owner in the world to have these engines installed.
Nicolai Andersen, Inspector, Technical Organisation, says: “DFDS ordered this type of engine for SUECIA, SELANDIA and BRITANNIA. When the Finnish manufacturer Wartsila acquired the engineering and manufacturing firm Sulzer in the late 1990s, Sulzer stopped the production of this particular engine type almost before it began, because it was a competitor engine type to the Wartsila 46 engine. We were the only company to have the engine delivered, and now we have successfully been running six of these engines for more than 100,000 hours and for 20 years.”
“Many congratulations to the crew on SELANDIA SEAWAYS, and thank you for your work in ensuring the operation of the first-ever Sulzer 9ZAL50S engine to reach this milestone. This is the result of hard work and good cooperation between the crews on the three Fincantieri sister vessels,” says Nicolai.
