Scandlines launches new website for growing freight business

Scandlines continues the positive development of its freight business, which is becoming an increasingly important business area. The ferry operator recently launched a more informative and intuitive freight website, thus offering even better service to the constantly growing number of freight customers.

The year has started well for Scandlines' freight business, with the positive trend of Q4 2021 continuing in January 2022.

Also in 2021, the freight business delivered impressive growth rates of 12 percent. The number of freight units transported is thus higher than in both 2020 and 2019, and even a few percentage points higher than in 2018, which was the record year to date.

With the new freight website, it will be even easier for freight customers to book crossings as well as find relevant information about Scandlines' routes, the company's goal of emission free ferry operations as well as other information that freight customers missed on the previous website.

"We can now offer our freight customers a modern and conveniently structured website with direct access to web booking as an alternative to EDI and the Scandlines Freight app," says Gerald Lefold, Managing Director Freight Sales at Scandlines.

The increasing number of freight customers is also the reason why Scandlines ordered an emission free freight ferry for the Puttgarden-Rødby route in November 2021. The ferry will enter service in 2024.

"We expect the positive development in this part of our business segment to continue. Our freight customers are placing increasing importance on transports being carried out as sustainable as possible. We want to meet this demand," Gerald Lefold explains.

The new ferry has a capacity of 66 freight units, which increases the current capacity of the Puttgarden-Rødby route by 23 percent.

With a crossing time of one hour, the ferry is emission free. It can also be operated as a hybrid ferry like the current passenger ferries on the Scandlines routes between Germany and Denmark. As a hybrid ferry, the crossing time is 45 minutes. With the zero emission ferry, Scandlines is taking a big step on the green journey.

Data for zero emission Scandlines freight ferry for the Puttgarden-Rødby route:
