Rising fuel costs lead to Viking Line adding fuel surcharges
As of 10 March 2022, Viking Line will introduce an additional fee for fuel on all cruises and scheduled trips. The fuel surcharge applies to new bookings for trips made during the period 10 March – 31 August 2022.
Due to sharply rising fuel costs, Viking Line is forced to charge a surcharge on its passengers. The fuel surcharge is charged for new bookings made from 10 March with departure 10 March - 31 August 2022. The price for trips booked before 10 March without fuel surcharge is not affected, provided that no changes are made to the booking.
Exceptions from the supplement are regular trips with refugees from Ukraine, their companions and relief shipments to and from Ukraine who already travel free of charge with Viking Line's ships.
- The price of fuel has skyrocketed with the war in Ukraine and many industries are hit hard, including shipping. We have to take this exceptional measure because the price of fuel has risen significantly in a short time and significantly more than expected. Without relief in sight and as the company's finances as a result of the long pandemic are already strained, we can in this situation not take more extra costs in addition to other unforeseen additional costs, says Viking Line's sales director Kenneth Gustavsson.
