Meyer Werft selects TMC for LNG-powered cruise vessel

Meyer Werft has contracted TMC Compressors to supply the marine compressed air system to a newbuild cruise vessel the German shipbuilding group is constructing for Carnival-owned AIDA Cruises.
Under the contract, TMC Compressors will supply a complete marine compressed air system that consists of instrument and service air compressors with associated air treatment system. TMC will also supply the air treatment system for the starting air system.

“Acquiring the full onboard compressed air system from one supplier reduces administrative work, ensures quick delivery and minimises system integration time and cost. We are delighted to be chosen as a system supplier to this vessel,” says Hans Petter Tanum, TMC Compressor’s director of sales and business development.

The contract is the third of three newbuild 180,000-ton cruise vessels that Meyer Werft is building for Germany-based AIDA Cruises, a Carnival Corporation brand. TMC has also delivered the marine compressed air system to the two other vessels.

TMC will manufacture and assemble the marine compressed air system at its facilities in the Nordic region and supply it to Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. It will include an estimated 2,700 guest staterooms and featured Carnival’s exclusive “green cruising” design, which incorporates LNG as the primary fuel for operations at sea and in port.

“Our compressors are renowned for their low energy usage, which translates to low operating costs and low emissions to air. They are a good fit for Carnival’s green cruising design,” adds Hans Petter Tanum.

TMC has not disclosed the value of the contract.

Meyer Werft is one of the largest and most modern shipyards in the world. More than 50 cruise ships have been built at its production and construction docks for several decades. The group of companies comprises shipyards in Papenburg and Rostock in Germany and in Turku, Finland.
