Major milestone for first x-bow polar vessel at ulstein verft

The workers at Ulstein today followed closely the hull arrival of the polar expedition cruise vessel NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE. This is the first X-BOW® polar vessel to be built at the yard. The Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic vessel will now undergo comprehensive outfitting work.

The hull will be transferred to the yard’s dock hall, where insulation work and electrical installations will commence. All major equipment including engines and thrusters will be installed, and later the accommodation work will start. The vessel is planned for delivery in Q1 2020.

The CEO and President of Lindblad Expeditions, Sven Lindblad, was intrigued by the X-BOW®hull line solution, developed by Ulstein, for the first polar newbuild in their fleet. Read the Lindblad story in Sven’s own words.

The X-BOW® hull reduces the environmental impact of the vessel. The X-BOW® was originally created for offshore supply vessels in the North Sea with the goal of maintaining speed and comfort in some of the world’ s wildest seas. A smoother ride leads to reduced fuel consumption.

Another aspect with the X-BOW® is the unobstructed view which enables optimal wildlife observations. The design enables forward and straight down-the sides viewing.

The NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE offers much space for the passengers. The vessel measures 124.4 metres and has accommodation for only 126 guests. The 69 spacious guest cabins and suites will include 12 cabins for solo travellers.

The ship will afford gracious comfort and an unparalleled level of service, with the highest comfort class for guests to ensure a quiet and peaceful environment onboard. The spa and fitness area will include treatment rooms, saunas, a fitness room, a relaxation area and yoga room; and there will be two infinity Jacuzzis for the utmost relaxation in pristine environments. Dining offerings include a main restaurant with outstanding views to the surroundings, and an outdoor barbeque and bistro area.

Lindblad Expeditions also has an agreement with Ulstein on the design and construction of a vessel number two, for delivery 2021.
