Viking Line expands Tallinn capacity and adds Visby cruises for summer 2026
FerryViking Line will double its capacity on the Helsinki–Tallinn route during peak summer weeks and introduce overnight stays on board in Tallinn, alongside special cruises to Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland.
From 17 June to 9 August, VIKING CINDERELLA and GABRIELLA will join the scheduled vessel VIKING XPRS on the Helsinki–Tallinn route, providing three daily departures from Helsinki's Skattudden terminal, and four on Fridays.
Estonia remains the most popular foreign summer destination for Finnish travellers. Viking Line carried 740,000 passengers between Helsinki and Tallinn last summer and is targeting similar volumes in 2026. According to Commercial Director Minna Tuorila, car-based travel is increasing as passengers extend journeys beyond Tallinn to other parts of the Baltic region.
A new service this summer allows passengers booked in cabins on VIKING XPRS to remain on board overnight while the vessel is docked in Tallinn, returning to Helsinki at 10:30 the following morning. The option will be available five days a week during the peak holiday period and is aimed at passengers wanting a full day ashore or those continuing by car to destinations such as Pärnu, Tartu or eastern Estonia. Viking Line states it is the only operator currently offering this service on the route.
In addition to its regular sailings to Tallinn, Stockholm and Mariehamn, Viking Line will operate four special cruises to Visby in June and August.
Connecting transport from various parts of Finland to the ports of Helsinki and Turku is available via the Matka app from Finnish bus operator Matkahuolto, which combines long-distance buses, trains, local transport and Viking Line sailings in a single booking.
