Turkish RoRo ship struck by drones in the Black Sea

Ro-roThe Turkish-owned RoRo ship NADEZHDA was struck by drones on 2 August while approximately 30 nautical miles off the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. The attack took place at 4:30 p.m. local time and injured four crew members, three of whom are Turkish nationals.

The Cameroon-flagged NADEZHDA, built in 1978, is owned and operated by Samsun-based Nadezhda Roro, which deploys the 1,028-lane-metre vessel on routes between Turkey and Russia, including the Samsun–Tuapse route.

The attack caused a fire in the vessel’s superstructure, but the crew managed to bring it under control. Ukraine has been accused of carrying out the attack by several sources, although this has yet to be confirmed. NADEZHDA was originally delivered as MERCANDIAN IMPORTER II by Frederikshavn Shipyard in Denmark.
