Torghatten retains route and assigns Sedef newbuilding

FerryTorghatten has secured a new concession from Nordland County Council for the Melbu–Fiskebøl route in Northern Norway, where the Norwegian ferry operator is already the incumbent operator. The new contract gives Torghatten a further 13 years on the route, which will be electrified under the new concession agreement.

As of August 2026, Torghatten has 10 newbuildings in its pipeline, all featuring potentially CO2-neutral propulsion. The company currently operates the conventionally powered, 1993-built HAMARØY on the route. Alongside the announcement of the new Melbu–Fiskebøl contract, Torghatten has also revealed the deployment of the newbuilding HADSEL, scheduled for delivery from Sedef Shipyard in Türkiye in May 2027.

The vessel will operate across Hadselfjorden between Hadseløya in Vesterålen and Austvågøya in Lofoten. Shortly beforehand, Torghatten also secured a new contract to operate the Vennesund–Holm route for Nordland County Council. This contract, worth NOK 1.2 billion, likewise runs for 13 years.
