Stena Line enters 50-year agreement with Frederikshavn

PortStena Line has entered into a long-term agreement with the Municipality of Frederikshavn for the operation of the ferry port in Frederikshavn for the next 50 years.

Stena Line and Frederikshavn have a common history dating back to the early 1960s, and with this agreement, the shipping company secures its presence in the North Jutland port city. The agreement means that Stena Line will take over the operational operation of the RoPax ferry terminal.

"Thanks to a close and constructive dialogue with Frederikshavn Municipality and the port, we continue to strengthen our historically close relationship and ensure a stable future together. This long-term agreement creates the framework for an infrastructure that enables continued sustainable trade, growth and preparedness," says Carl-Johan Hellner, COO Ports & Terminals and Head of Group Strategy at Stena Line.

"I am pleased that we have entered into a 50-year agreement with Stena Line. This creates security and long-term opportunities for both the port and the whole of Frederikshavn. It is a strong signal of trust and shared ambitions," says Mayor Karsten Thomsen of Frederikshavn Municipality.

The new agreement entails an expansion of Stena Line's right of use and operational operation in the ferry port and that Stena Line will be a negotiating partner for other external customers in need of port services.

Over the coming years, Stena Line's terminals for both Denmark and Germany traffic will be moved from the centre of Gothenburg to the Port of Arendal. The agreement, which is valid for the next 50 years, can therefore be regarded as a parallel investment that supports the shipping company's long-term strategy.

"Arendal is an investment in the passenger and freight routes of the future, where a similar long-term investment in Frederikshavn is a necessity. I am very pleased that Frederikshavn Municipality recognizes the importance of long-term planning and that together we create the framework for a continued long-term collaboration as well as for trade, tourism and emergency preparedness," says Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line.

Stena Line currently operates the Frederikshavn-Gothenburg route with the ships STENA DANICA and STENA JUTLANDICA, with three to four departures daily in both directions.
