SAMPIYON MELEKLER sails for Filo Denizcilik
Ro-roTurkish shipping company Filo Denizcilik, which has served Northern Cyprus for many years, has purchased the 2,171 lane-metre RoRo LYKTO. Now renamed SAMPIYON MELEKLER in honour of the Champion Angels school volleyball teams from Gazimagusa who died in the 2023 earthquake.
The 15,375 GT vessel sails between Mersin and Gazimagusa (Famagusta) with three weekly departures. The 160.5m long by 20.7m beam vessel was built by Frederikshavn Vaerft in 1986 and is equipped with a single MaK 8M552 main engine of 4,900 kW, giving a service speed of 14 knots.
The vessel is equipped with a stern ramp and quarter ramp with a wide internal ramp to the upper deck and weather deck.
Turkish owners appreciate the high-quality construction of former Mercandia RoRo vessels built at Frederikshavn, as they still retain almost all vessels in their fleets, despite their age.
