Port of Turku to build a system that streamlines departures and peak periods
PortThe Port of Turku’s new passenger terminal is taking a digital leap as a modern passenger and traffic management system is being built for the area. Following a competitive tendering process, the Turku-based software company Weasel Software has been selected as the provider and will be responsible for delivering and commissioning the system.
The delivery includes both the passenger and traffic management system and the related equipment, such as gates, measuring devices, and digital signage. In addition to delivering and installing the system, Weasel Software will also provide maintenance and support services after go-live.
The aim of the new system is to make check-in and boarding for vehicles and passengers smoother and faster than before. This is particularly important in the new terminal, where two passenger and freight ferries can arrive and depart simultaneously in under an hour. Automated and integrated processes make it possible to manage simultaneous departures from a single shared waiting area, reducing manual workload and improving overall performance during peak periods.
Juha Laurila, CEO, Weasel Software Oy:
“This is a significant contract for us. We are pleased to deliver a solution for the Port of Turku that brings passenger and traffic management together as one integrated whole. We are providing a modern system and ensuring its smooth use through long-term maintenance and support services.”
Erik Söderholm, CEO, Port of Turku Ltd:
“One of the key objectives of the Ferry Terminal Turku project is to create an even smoother and more efficient port experience for passengers and shipping companies. The passenger and traffic management system is a central element in achieving this, and we are very pleased to have an experienced and highly competent provider as the implementation partner.”
The Port of Turku is one of Southwest Finland’s key transport hubs. According to the Port of Turku, more than 2 million passengers travel through the port annually, around 80,000 trucks arrive at the port, and over 1,500 vessels call at the port.
