New Spirit of Tasmania ferries completed their inaugural passenger crossings across Bass Strait
FerrySpirit of Tasmania (TT-Line Co Pty) operated the first passenger sailings with its two newbuilds, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV and SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V, across Bass Strait between Tasmania and mainland Australia on 31 October.
SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV made its first voyage with fare-paying passengers from Devonport in Tasmania to Geelong on the mainland, while sister ship SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V simultaneously completed its inaugural sailing in the opposite direction.
Delivered by Rauma Marine Constructions in Finland, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV and SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V replace the 1998-built SPIRIT OF TASMANIA I and SPIRIT OF TASMANIA II, which have served the route since 2002.
During construction of the two 47,994 GT RoPax ferries at Rauma Marine Constructions, Shippax produced an in-depth magazine covering Spirit of Tasmania’s newbuilding project in Finland. Read the magazine here.
