Several new developments are planned for 2026, including new routes and stronger existing services. Routes between Croatia and Italy will intensify further, with the launch of a new Split-Bari ferry route this summer and a Zadar-Ancona catamaran service.

This is reported by the media outlet Del Popolo La Voce. From 1 January, the island of Brac has gained new year-round ferry connections, with at least 12 daily sailings to the mainland.

Jadrolinija has also taken a first step toward renewing its fleet. In December 2025, it issued a EUR 200,000 tender for the design of a double-ended ferry, which will serve as the model for three new vessels - its first newbuilds since 2014. The new ferries, about 100 metres long, will feature diesel-electric, battery-ready propulsion and be compatible with green methanol and biodiesel.

They will carry up to 125 cars and 650 passengers, reach a service speed of 12 knots, and be deployed on routes of up to 1.5 hours. The tender prioritizes speed and cost, with 40% of the score based on price and 40% on delivery time, requiring documentation within just 10 weeks. Applicants must also have experience with methanol-powered and hybrid vessels.
