CORSICA linea’s E-Flexer For Corsica Service, CAPU ROSSU, Launched At CMI Jinling Weihai
FerryCORSICA linea announced the launch of the E-Flexer ro-pax vessel CAPU ROSSU, with commissioning scheduled for June 2026. The second new LNG-powered vessel of the Company destined for Marseille-Corsica service was launched on 30 June 2025 at the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai under the supervision of Stena RoRo.
The launch of this 13th vessel in the Stena E-Flexer series marks the completion of the vessel’s assembly phase. Following the start of production initiated with the cutting of the first steel plate in September 2024 and the keel laying in February 2025, the construction of CAPU ROSSU has accelerated after a tight 140-day assembly sequence: 318 steel blocks with a total weight of over 16,000 tonnes.
The operation began with the inspection of the hull before proceeding to open the dry dock valves and fill the basin to accommodate the vessel.
“The launch is a crucial milestone in the marathon of constructing CAPU ROSSU. This stage was celebrated with great emotion and solemnity alongside our Chinese partners, whose professionalism and expertise are remarkable. The production schedule is being followed with extreme precision and skill,” comments Commander Lionel Penna, in charge of the CAPU ROSSU construction project at CORSICA linea.
Final construction stages before sea trials and delivery in early 2026. One and a half years after CORSICA linea announced its order, CAPU ROSSU will remain in dry dock to complete finishing work, apply silicone paint, and prepare for the first sea trials scheduled for early February 2026.
